Who are Opening Books written for???
I'm questioning who chess opening books are really written for.
My Chess Book Collection is Starting to Annoy Me!
In general I like to "check my work". (Especially with the openings since what I'm finding for us mortal chess players runs counter the general consensus.) L
I'm struggling with this question: Do I make general comments about the general focus of books in general or do I be "disruptive" and comment on particular books and repertoire suggestions?
When I was playing OTB, I was an "e4" player and against the Sicilian, I played "2.c3". I was curious what my "go to" book for that had to say about move choices. I grabbed my copy of "Starting Out: C3 Sicilian". In the introduction, it said this for "Black's Main Responses"
Black has two main replies to White’s second move: 2 ... d5 and 2 ... Nf6. Their popularity when compared to other replies is overwhelming and for this reason they occupy a vast majority of the space in this book.
Only problem is if you look at the screenshot above, for the bulk of players who play "rapid" games on Lichess, it takes a bit of work to find those two moves. Yes, for about the top 5% of players, those are popular moves but not for people like me. (And people like you?)
